Louis Footitt is a local 15 year old who has been paddling in canoe slalom since first trying canoeing on Lake Windermere. He was one step away from becoming a Tae Kwon Do Black belt when he decided that canoe slalom was going to be his chosen sport and within three years he was representing England in a "Home Nations" style event on the Wild River Tay at Grand Tully Scotland.
Since then this driven young man has paddled in a junior European Competition in Augsburg Germany and on the World Championship courses in L’Argentierre a la Bessee, France and The Prague Canoeing Centre at Troja on the Vltava River in the Czech Republic. The Lee Valley White Water Centre in Hertfordshire, a legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games is a huge challenge for Louis but he has already booked up for winter training this year with no less than 20 sessions on this monster of a course.
Currently competing in two classes, Kayak K1 and Canoe C1, Louis says; "I am in Division 1 for both disciplines and have to compete against all comers in either division, despite the difficulties of battling against competitors of all age groups my ranking is constantly improving, with projected end of season finishes of 66th in K1 and 9th in C1".
Louis is fortunate to have an ex Great Britain paddler as a private technical coach and trains with him at least twice weekly at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham, other session include The River Nene and the Legacy course at Lee Valley. Louis says; "I have an improving technical profile but most of all I have to build my upper body strength and aerobic capacity, I have a slight frame, which from a weight perspective is good for my sport but I need to improve my power to weight ratio".
Empire Gym is proud to be associated with such a devoted and determined young sportsman and pleased to provide access and expertise in helping Louis achieve his fitness goals and improve his performance in his chosen sport.
